FX
has given a straight to series order to American Crime Story, a companion
series to Ryan Murphy's widely popular horror series American Horror Story.
The
new show will follow what made its predecessor great but applied to some of the
biggest and best-known real crimes in history. The 10-episode season is titled American
Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, and is based on Jeffrey Toobin's book
The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson.
This first season will tell the story of the O.J. Simpson trial from the
lawyers perspective, and will explore “the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and
maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution
confidence, defense wiliness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s black
community gave a journey what it needed: reasonable doubt.”
Murphy will direct at least the first couple of episodes, which will be
written by The People Vs. Larry Flynt scribes, Scott Alexander and Larry
Karaszewski.
American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson is set to start production early next year in Los Angeles.
