In anticipation of this summer's Guardians of the
Galaxy, Marvel is putting out a spin-off of Brian Michael Bendi's Guardians of
the Galaxy comic series. Titled Legendary Star-Lord, this new title will be
written by Sam Humphries and will feature art by Paco Medina.
In an interview to MTV News, Humphries said, "There
was something about Star-Lord that I immediately gravitated to," and that "Star-Lord
was something that I felt I could have a blast with. He's a charming
motherf--ker! He's a down-to-Earth individual. Everyone has a friend like Peter
Quill. He's cocky, he's arrogant, but he's always got your back."
Humphries then talked about his take on the character,
which doesn't seem to be that far of from what we have seen in the teasers and
promos from the movie.
"Peter
sees himself as a legend because he can fly fast, and shoot fast, and flirt
fast. But what really makes someone a legend are things buried in yourself that
you didn't know you had."
Fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic shouldn't worry
as Star-lord will still be making regular appearances in the comic, but his
solo title will provide new adventures as well as the opportunity to build up
his relationship with Kitty Pryde from the X-Men.
"You can't get that more long distance than the
Earth to the edge of the galaxy. They have this two-way holographic phone, and
get to know each other across the stars, and see where this leads them. There's
this heat on both sides, but we're going to see how their personalities
actually mesh."
The first issue of Legendary Star-Lord will hit a
store near you on July 1st.
