One of Marvel's most villainous...well...villains
and soon to be immortalized on the big screen is Thanos. The wretched conqueror
was created by Mike Friedrich and Jim Starlin, who years later created his very
own sci-fi comic titled Dreadstar. Now Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment
have announced that they have acquired the rights to adapt the 1982 comic book
series to a feature film.
"Apart from Star
Wars, this was my favorite science fiction story growing up,"
said J.C. Spink of Benderspink to THR.
"Dreadstar
is one of the most important comics on the 1980s, paving the way for creators
to control their own creations,” Illuminati’s Ford Lytle Gilmore said. “After
decades of Jim exercising that control and turning away countless Hollywood
suitors, I'm excited he's trusting me and J.C. to do it right."
The
over sixty issues series followed Vanth Dreadstar, the lone survivor of the
Milky Way Galaxy, who together with his crew of misfits (Syzygy, Darklock,
Willow and Oedi), is caught in the middle of an ancient old war between two powerful
empires.
