The
feature film adaptation of the popular Ubisoft video game Splinter
Cell has been stuck in development hell for years now, but last year
interest seemed to pick up when screenwriter Eric Singer (The
International) was tapped to pen the script and star Tom Hardy became
attached to play Sam Fisher a covert U.S. operative from a sub-branch
of the NSA. Now Ubisoft and producing partner New Regency have found
their director, Doug Liman.
According
to HV the director is in final negotiations to take the helm of
Splinter Cell, which has production start date in August and a set
release date for 2015. Having directed The Bourne Identity and Mr.
and Mrs. Smith Liman is no stranger to the espionage thriller/action
genre.
Splinter
Cell, or should I say Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell only bares the name and blessing of the late writer, as he didn't (as far as anyone knows)
have any input in the game or in the different novels that were
published. The novels were all witten by different authors but all signed with the
same name, David Michaels.
At
this time the plot for Splinter Cell is a mystery, but fans (myself
included) of the video game franchise should be please to know that
the film is on track.
