Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will mark Marvel’s start into their Phase 3 cinematic plan. Ant-Man will approximately be released two and a half months after The Avengers: Age of Ultron on what was originally going to be DC’s big opening weekend with Batman vs. Superman.
The whole Ant-Man project was
announced back in 2006 with director Edgar Wright already attached to direct,
but due to scheduling conflicts, i.e. Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim and The World’s
End, Wright was only capable of being fully on board some months back, which
was when it was announced that the screenplay for this new hero was done.
Six months have passed since the
announcement that the script was “locked” and two things happened, the first
was the announcement that Paul Rudd had been cast to play Scott Lang, aka
Ant-Man and the other is that Michael Douglas had also been cast to play Hank
Pym, aka the original Ant-Man. The addition of Scott Lang to the story makes us
believe that Ant-Man will be centered on Lang’s theft of the Ant-Man suit and
his ultimately transformation into a hero.
In the red carpet event for his
latest film, They Came Together, Paul Rudd was asked by Flicks and the City,
how does it feel to be the lead in a Marvel movie.
“Well, it’s all just kind of
starting, so it’s really cool. I’m very excited about it. I read some comics
and [saw] some [Marvel] movies and I knew Edgar Wright for many years. The
whole thing that it’s actually happened, that I got the part is still kind of
surreal. It’s still sinking in over
these last several months.”
He was then asked about going to
work with Michael Douglas.
“It’s a thrill, he’s amazing!”
At the end the actor was asked
about the rumor that Rashida Jones is being eyed to star.
“I follow what comes out online
and even then I don’t quite follow. I let those powers at be announce what they
want to announce when they announce it. A lot of that stuff you hear is not
true.”
