These past few days have been big for Zack Snyder’s
Batman vs. Superman, first with the announcement of Fast & Furious actress
Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, then Variety reported that the
Flash was “a lock” to appear at least as a cameo, and then it was rumored that
the 300: Rise of an Empire actor Callan Mulvey was being eyed for a role and
that Doomsday could be it, but now new rumors are being passed around as
truths.
The first one is that Mulvey could be playing the humanoid
robot with a Kryptonite heart, Metallo and the second one is that Denzel Washington,
Idris Elba and “a certain reoccurring [African-American] cast member from
‘Arrow.’ ” could be up to play Lex Luthor.
Let’s begin with the elephant in the room, Lex Luthor,
who for me I so much the obvious choice that I get angry just thinking that he
could be the villain in yet another Superman film, but regardless of my
personal opinions, let’s see what’s what. Denzel Washington as Luthor, an amusing
choice but probably no and not because he couldn’t play a villain, I mean he
won his Oscar as a villain in Training Day, yet still a stretch. Elba as
Luthor, well sure I can envision that but I think he would be a much better
choice to play John Stewart, aka Green Lantern, as for reoccurring African-american
cast member in Arrow, we can assume that the rumors are referring to Colin
Salmon and not David Ramsey who as a steady foot in DC other adaptation in
Arrow playing John Diggle. Salmon could pull off Luthor, he has that kind of
vibe in him, what he doesn’t have is a big star behind his name, which shouldn’t
mean anything, but who knows.
Now for the other rumored villain in the film,
Metallo. An interesting choice but I have some issues with Metallo fighting
Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, I mean fighting one at a time sure why not,
but the three at once, I think not.
I still maintain that Doomsday, Darkseid or Brainiac would
be much better villains for the live-action film.
