Yesterday it was announced that 20th Century Fox will be following Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past with another X-Men movie titled X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. Now THR is reporting that screenwriter Simon Kinberg (Jumper, Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Star Wars Rebels) has signed a three year deal with the studio to help them develop a “Marvel style” universe for both their X-Men and Fantastic Four films. Besides X-Men and the Fantastic Four, Kinberg will also be working on original properties and lesser known Marvel titles.
"I have a lot of ideas on how to build those
brands and do what everybody is thinking of these days: Be like Marvel,"
Kinberg said. "I want to be able to build stories over multiple
movies."
So does this mean that there will be an
X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover? Well at one point Mar Millar, who is the studio’s
Creative Consultant for all things Marvel said:
“Without question I think you have to see some of these
guys showing up in each other’s movies. I think the most exciting thing in
superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up
in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool –
and I expect we will see more of that.”
But with Kinberg suddenly showing up to cultivate these
and other projects, what role will Millar and his ideas have in future Marvel
adaptations remains to be seen.
