When people hear that someone is trying to adapt
something classic like a movie or book to a different format they cringe with
fear that it will be a huge mistake and disregard the attempt as someone in a
suit trying to make a profit out of something that is close and dear to their
hearts. Well I’m not really one of those people, as long as it’s done right I’ve
no quarrels with it, so it’s with pleasure that I say that NBC is looking to
adapt Ira Levin’s 1967 novel Rosemary’s Baby, which was previously adapted by Roman
Polanski, to a miniseries. This is not the first and probably won’t be the last
time that original content is being adapted to the small screen, Bates Motel (Psycho),
Hannibal (Red Dragon), Arrow (Comics) or Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen book)
were and have managed to not only please fans and critics but also be successes
in the ratings.
According to THR, writers Scott Abbott and James Wong
will be penning the screenplay for the four-hour part miniseries and production
is set to start in Paris early next year.
