According
to The Wall Street Journal, the Broadway play Spider-Man: Turn Off
The Dark will be ending its run on January of 2014 and will be moving
to Las Vegas because it seems that there is “a greater opportunity”
for the play. The reason for the change of venue is to cut losses on
the production, which has been running below what was expected.
"Economically
we have a greater opportunity in the Las Vegas market," said
producer Jeremiah Harris. "Over the last week we've finalized
all the creative deals, and are in serious negotiations with a venue
in Las Vegas."
The
Broadway show opened on June of 2011 and became famous for all the
wrong reasons. Technical glitches, injured actors and becoming the
most expensive show ever in Broadway history even before it opened,
were some of the things that the show struggled to overcome.
Originally directed by Julie Taymor with music and lyrics by Bono &
The Edge, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" featured several
characters from Marvel's long running comic series including Mary
Jane, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, J. Jonah Jameson, Flash Thompson, The
Green Goblin, Carnage, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, The Lizard, Swarm
and a new character called Swiss Miss.
