Also
known as Paradise Island, Themyscira is an idyllic and tolerant place, home to
the immortal Amazons, a race of warrior women created by five Olympian goddesses,
Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Hestia, and Aphrodite, whom gave them some of their
own traits such as strength, beauty, wisdom, and love.
To
create such an exotic and fantastical location for the movie, production used a
couple of locations such as Italy's Amalfi coast, and southern China. However,
designing Themyscira proved to be challenging, and every decision came
down to "How
would I want to live that’s badass?" said director Patty Jenkins in an
interview to Entertainment Weekly.

Producer Charles Roven also added that, "Themyscira
is influenced by the Greek but it’s clearly more than that," he said.
"It’s a place that has the ‘you’ve never been to’ kind of feel. But once
you’re there you’re not so sure you really want to leave so fast."
Starring Gal Gadot, Connie
Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd
Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis, Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June
