Following Slumdog Millionaire one would have thought
that Dev Patel would have been one of the most sought out actors in the
industry, but no. After appearing in M. Night Shyamalan’s god awfully poor live-action
adaptation of the good, popular and award winning cartoon series Avatar: The
Last Airbender, Patel apparently returned to tv and is currently starring as a
supporting character in The Newsroom.
But not all is lost, as recent news puts Patel in
early talks to star opposite Sharlto Copley in Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, which
is based on an early short by Blomkamp called Tetra Vaal.
Tetra Vaal is parody commercial for a robotic police
force for the South Africa slums. Copley is set to star has a robotic police
officer and according to HV, Patel is going to play “a young man in the impoverished
town.”
