Ender's Game

Writter Orson Scott Card wrote in 1985 a science fiction novel called "Ender's Game". The story of the novel was set on a future earth, where an imperiled humankind tries to survive a third incursion by an alien race called Formics or Buggers as they are called by most of the population. These aliens have an insectoid type appearence, with an ant-like group behaviour and are extremely protective of their leader. While preparing for the third incursion on our world by the buggers, an international military academy is formed, to train through games, gifted young children for combat. Amidst all the student there is one that could have the potential to save us all, Ender Wiggin, who starts to show is tactical superiority in the Battle Room games under zero gravity. Now, the novel has been compared to a sci-fi version of the Lord of the Flies, it's been called a percursor to The Hunger Games, and many other things, but it's a difficult book to adapt and so much that it took ten year of hard work to bring the book to the big screen, and all thanks to writer/director Gavin Hood, whom also directed Tsotsi and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Has with any book adaptation changes had to be made for the script, namely the age of the recruits in the space academy, whom are older. The main reason for the change was, “I discussed this at length with Orson. The decision was made very early on to compress the time period into about a year, so that we could have the same actor from beginning to end… We were trying to hit that sweet spot right around 12, which Asa fits in very nicely.” said the director to EW.
Starring in the movie will be Abigail Breslin from Little Miss Sunshine and Zombieland as Valentine Wiggin, Asa Butterfield from Hugo and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas as Ender Wiggin, Harrison Ford from Star Wars as Colonel Hydrum Graff, Ben Kingsley from Iron Man 3, Ghandi and Schindlers List as Mazer Rackham, Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit as Petra Arkanian, Viola Davis from The Help and Doubt as Major Gwen Anderson, Nonso Anozie from The Grey and Conan the Barbarian as Sergeant Dap and Brando Soo Hoo from Tropic Thunder and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as Fly Molo, among other actors. The movie is schedule to arrive at theaters in November of this year. Ender's Game seems to be a work of love for director Gavin Hood that worked for four years on the movie, so the expectation surrounding the project is high. Fortunatly there haven't been any reports of production problems, creative control clashes, etc.., unlike his notorious X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
