Adam Wingard To Direct Godzilla vs. Kong

Adam Wingard, who rose to prominence directing low-budget horror thrillers such as You're Next (2011), and The Guest (2014), is set to helm the coming together of two of the most iconic movie monsters of all time, Godzilla and King Kong, in Legendary and Warner Bros.' upcoming monsters movie Godzilla vs. Kong.

Back in March, Legendary created a writers room to develop a script for the project with Terry Rossio ("Pirates of the Caribbean") leading a team of writers that included Cat Vasko, J.D. Payne, J. Michael Straczynski, Patrick McKay, Jack Plagen, T.S. Nowlin, and Lindsey Beer.

Wingard recently wrapped the adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's popular horror manga series Death Note for Netflix.

Legendary's monster universe started with Gareth Edwards' Godzilla in 2014, which was followed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island, which premiered earlier this year to mostly positive reviews. Next on the agenda is Michael Dougherty's ("Krampus") Godzilla: King of Monsters starring Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiha, Kyle Chandler, Charles Dance, Sally Hawkins, Aisha Hinds, O'Shea Jackson Jr., and Ken Watanabe.

Godzilla vs. Kong opens in theaters on May 22, 2020.
