The X-Files are back
(again)!
It seems the truth is
still out there, and Fox is eager to capitalize on finding it. Just little over
a year after reviving the iconic series with a six-episode event series, the
network has announced their plans to for yet another limited revival.
This past Thursday, Fox
announced that The X-Files will return for the 2017-18 season with 10 new
episodes starring once again David Duchovny as Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as
Dana Scully.
Creator and executive
producer Chris Carter is back as well.
"Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold
creators — these are the hallmarks of great TV shows," Fox Broadcast Company
president David Madden said in an official statement. "And they are some
of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on
millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of
David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t
wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter
of The X-Files."
Of the recent batch of revivals, which include the now-concluded
24 spinoff Legacy and Prison Break, the sci-fi drama and its 2016 event series are
Fox's golden goose in terms of ratings, so it's logical that the network would
want to continue to explore it.
The new series is expected to begin production this
summer.
