Patrick Malahide ("Game
of Thrones"), Colin Salmon ("Arrow"), and Rege-Jean Page ("Roots")
have joined the cast of the Peter Jackson produced upcoming big screen
adaptation of Philip Reeve's popular YA novel series Mortal Engines.
Directing Mortal
Engines is Jackson's protégé Christian Rivers (VFX art director on "The
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring").
The trio of actors
joins Hugo Weaving ("The Matrix"), Stephan Lang ("Avatar"),
Robert Sheehan ("Misfits"), South Korean singer/actress Jihae, and
newcomer Leila George.
Mortal
Engines takes place in a world deployed of natural resources, where Earth's
cities roam the globe on gargantuan rolling tracks to hunt for smaller cities
in order to acquire whatever resources and technology they still possess. The
plot centers on Tom Natsworthy, a teen who one day comes across a mysterious young
woman from a territory known as the Outlands, thus kicking off his, hers, and
ours, adventure.
The
project is being financed by MRC (Media Right Capital) and Universal, with
Jackson and his wife and partner Fran Walsh ("The Lord of the Rings,"
trilogy) producing alongside Zane Weiner ("The Hobbit"), Amanda
Walker ("The Hobbit"), and Deborah Forte ("The Golden
Compass").
