Neruda, and Jackie
filmmaker Pablo Larrain is attached to direct the big screen adaptation of
Anand Giridharadas' 2014 non-fiction book The Tue American: Murder and Mercy in
Texas.
The story centers on
Rais Bhuiyan, a Bangladesh Air Force veteran and Muslim immigrant who after narrowly
escaping a hate crime just days after the Sept. 11 attacks, works towards having
his attacker spared from execution.
The Oscar-nominated
directed replaces Kathryn Bigelow, who was at one point attached to direct the
film.
Starring Tom Hardy, The
True American will be produced by Megan Ellison, Bigelow, Matthew Budman, and
Juan de Dios Larrain.
