Adam Cozad, who penned The
Legend of Tarzan for Warner Bros., is in talks to write the sequel to David
Ayer's Suicide Squad.
The project is a priority for the studio, which has already approached
several directors including Mel Gibson, who most recently earned an Oscar
nomination for Hacksaw Ridge.
The 2016 superhero movie, which included Margot Robbie and Will Smith in
starring roles, grossed $745 million worldwide.
In addition to Legend of Tarzan, Cozad's writing credits also include the Jack Ryan reboot
in 2014 starring Chris Pine and Keira Knightly, and the upcoming action-thriller
movie starring Kristen Stewart titled Underwater.
Ayer's absence from Suicide
Squad 2 is due to Gotham City Sirens, a project focused on the female villains
of the growing DC Extended Universe that reunites him with Robbie and Harley
Quinn.
Directed by David Yates, The
Legend of Tarzan starred Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz,
and Samuel L. Jackson and grossed $356 million worldwide.
