Sundance breakout
filmmaker J.D. Dillard is in talks to co-write and direct The Fly remake for 20th
Century Fox.
The
filmmaker is generating some heat with his magic-centered low-budget thriller
Sleight, which is being described as being in the vein of Chronicle in tone except
with magic.
The
thriller follows a street magician played by Jacob Latimore, who is forced to
work with drug dealers in order to survive the streets, but when his sister's
life becomes imperil, the young magician must use all of his superpowers to
save her.
Sleight
opens in theaters on April 28.
Dillard will co-write
the remake with his writing partner Alex Theurer.
The fan-favorite
1986-horror film directed by David Cronenberg and starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena
Davis, was itself a remake of a 1958 horror classic directed by Kurt Newman.
The
Fly tells of a scientist whose teleportation experiment goes awry and he ends
up fusing with a fly.
