Netflix has unveiled the very
first trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's popular
horror manga series and anime of the same name Death Note.
Directed by Adam Wingard ("The Guest") from a script by Vlasis
and Charley Parlapanides ("Immortals"), and Jeremy Slater ("Exorcist"
on TV), the
film centers on a student named Light Turner (Nat
Wolff), who discovers a supernatural notebook (Death Note) that gives him the
ability to kill anyone he chooses simply by writing that person's name on it.
When Light decides to take upon himself to eradicate the World from evil, a
reclusive police officer known only as L appears and a game of cat-and-mouse
ensues.
Set to premiere on Netflix on August
25, the film also stars Margaret Qualley as Mia Stutton, Keith Stanfield as L,
Michael Shamus Wiles as Police Captain Russel, Willem Dafoe as the voice of
Ryuk, Shea Whigham as Light's father and Internal Affairs Officer James Turner.
A
student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone
begins a crusade against evil in order to rule the world as a benevolent human
god. Then a deadly game of cat and mouse begins when a reclusive detective
begins to track down the young man, attempting to end his reign of terror once
and for all.
