After a very good and
profitable weekend, Disney is now looking into the possibility of developing
either a prequel or spinoff (no sequel) to Bill Condon's live-action Beauty and
the Beast.
In a recent interview, the
President of Production at The Walt Disney Studio, Sean Bailey, revealed that the
studio is considering turning Beauty and the Beast into a full-fledged
franchise and are exploring various scenarios including a prequel or a spinoff.
Bailey also revealed that the
studio is only looking at 2D animations to adapt into live-action feature films,
so don't expect to see a live-action Frozen anytime soon.
It's unclear when we can
expect the prequel/spinoff to land in theaters, but looking at Disney's current live-action
calendar, it probably won't be anytime soon.
Then again, Beauty and the
Beast looks like it will cross the billion dollars mark so…
Currently in the pipeline,
Disney has The Jungle Book 2, Lion King, Snow White, Dumbo, Mulan, Peter Pan, and
Aladdin just to name a few.
