Alcon
Entertainment ("Blade Runner 2049," "Prisoners") is ready
for their first animation venture with the adaptation of Shane Hegarty's
fantasy-adventure book series Darkmouth. To this end, the company has secured
the services of industry veterans Douglas Sweetland, and David Pimental.
Sweetland,
who previously worked on Monsters Inc., Toy Story, and The Incredibles for
Pixar, and Pimental, who most recently served as the head of story for Disney's
Moana, are set to direct the feature animation.
"For
generations, Finn’s family has protected Darkmouth from the fierce magical
creatures known as Legends. Now the Legends are plotting a major attack, and
it’s Finn’s turn to defend his hometown. So it’s too bad he’s the worst Legend
Hunter in history."
Described as a
comedy-fantasy, the project is said to be in the same vein of DreamWorks' How to Train
Your Dragon.
Lloyd Taylor, who hails
from the Disney Writers Program, is working on the screenplay. While at the DWP,
Taylor worked on Enchanted, and Race to Witch Mountain, and most recently, he worked
on Fox Animation's Pigeon Impossible.
Simon Brooks of Canyon Creek Films, 8:38’s Kira Davis
and Craig Peck will produce along with Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and
Andrew Kosove.
