It looks like
Harrison Ford is not the only original cast member from Ridley Scott's 1982
sci-fi classic Blade Runner to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel being
directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Edward James
Olmos, who in the first film played the Cityspeak-talking and origami-enthusiast
cop Gaff, is reprising his role.
In an
interview to The Trend Talk, Olmos revealed that even though his role in the
new movie is much shorter than it was in the first film, it is poignant.
"Well, it’s not about Gaff, but
it’s about someone who is going to try to find out certain things about us back
then," he explained "My role is like it was in the original – that
time I only had four scenes, in this I only have one. But again, it’s a
poignant little scene."
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new
blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that
has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery
leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade
runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Written by Hampton Fancher and Michael
Green, Blade Runner 2049 follows the initial story by Fancher and
David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric
Sheep.
Opening in theaters on October 6, 2017, Blade
Runner 2049 also stars Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de
Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, David Dastmalchian, Dave Bautista, Barkhad
Abdi, Hiam Abbass, and Lennie James.
Ridley Scott will serve as an executive producer
alongside Frank Giustra, Bill Carraro, and Thunderbird Films' CEO Tim Gamble.
