Star Trek Beyond
filmmaker Justin Lin has signed a deal to develop, produce, and direct a
feature film based on Mattel's popular toyline, Hot Wheels.
The toy company has
been trying to get a Hot Wheels movie off the ground for quite some time. McG
was at one point set to both direct and produce the motion picture for Columbia.
The project then moved to Joel Silver and Warner Bros., before Legendary picked
up the rights to the property in the early 2010s and brought Simon Crane in to
direct the project in 2013.
Lin, his Perfect
Strom partner Troy Craig Poon, and Legendary will begin searching for a writer
as soon as possible, but it will not be the director's next movie as the
filmmaker has several other projects on his docket including Space Jam 2, a Bourne
sequel starring Jeremy Renner, a Shaolin Temple remake, and a television series
titled Warrior.
