Despite publicly admitting that he would rather slash his wrists then
reprising his role as James Bond in the near future, Daniel Craig still is the
top choice for producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to play the
famous character.
Speaking to the BBC's Radio 4 Today program, Bond executive
producer Callum McDougall, who has worked on nine Bond movies including the
last four, has revealed that the actor remains the first choice for both Broccoli
and Wilson.
"I wish I knew,"
he said. "We love Daniel. We would love Daniel to return as Bond. Without
any question he is absolutely Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli’s first
choice. I know they’re hoping for him to come back."
Since Craig is not
under contract to return, speculation has run wild over who should play the iconic
character, with names such as Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, and even Jamie Bell
appearing as possible fan favorites.
The 007 franchise is
in a bit of disarray now that the rights are up for grabs. So before we start
asking who should play Bond, we need to know what studio will pick up the
rights to the franchise.
