Veteran actor Lance Henriksen is joining the second
season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow as Obsidian, a superhero able to manipulate
dark energy, and member of the Justice Society of America.
It's unclear if Obsidian will be a superhero in active
or if he will take on a mentor or leadership role in the series, but given Henriksen's
age we should expect something more in line with the latter and not the former.
In the comics, Todd James Rice, aka Obsidian is the
son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott and Rose Canton, the villain better
known as Thorn. Obsidian has a variety of shadow-like powers that include darkforce
manipulation, phasing, flight, size manipulation, melding his shadow to that of
others, telepathy, and energy based constructs.
The 76-year-old actor joins fellow Justice Leaguers Patrick
J. Adams as Hourman, Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel, Sarah Grey as
Stargirl, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, and Nick Zano as Citizen Steel.
Dr. Mid-Nite is also part of the team, but the role
has yet to be cast.
In the new season of Legends of Tomorrow, the Justice
Society of America will face-off against the Legion of Doom, which will feature
in its roster Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman),
Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).
The second season of Legends of Tomorrow premieres Thursday,
October 13 at 8pm ET on The CW.
