Anthony and Joe Russo
are taking a break from the Marvel universe, and are teaming with screenwriter
Frank Baldwin to adapt the 1979 cult film The Warriors, itself an adaptation of
Sol Yurick's novel of the same name, into a one-hour drama with Paramount TV
and Hulu.
The series, which
doesn't yet have a director attached, will stay true to the original film while
sprinkling some new ideas on top with "its own brand of grit, pulp, sex
and violence," Deadline reports.
Directed by Walter
Hill ("48 Hrs."), when a
charismatic gang leader who had summoned the street gangs of war zone-like New
York City in a bid to take it over is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed
and now must fight their way home while every other gang in the city is hunting
them down to kill them.
In addition to their Marvel duties, which will soon include Avengers:
Infinity War Part I and II, the Russo duo is also developing various other
projects such as Space Runners at Fox 2000, 17 Bridges at STX, and a remake of
The Thomas Crown Affair at MGM with Michael B. Jordan attached to star in the
lead role.
