After five movies spanning two different franchises Sony
Pictures, Marvel Studios and Jon Watts ("Cop Car") the director will
want to bring something new to the latest cinematic version of Spider-Man,
which will star Tom Holland as the iconic superhero.
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Watts addressed the need
to shake things up and explore new themes in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
"It’s been really fun to just look for things
that none of the other Spider-Man movies
have really explored before, and decide if that’s something we want to work
into that," he explained. "And really making it a high school movie,
and committing to that, and not having that just be the beginning of the movie.
The John Hughes sort of tone. When you’re looking at it through that prism, it
really opens up the door to a lot of possibilities."
Based on characters by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Homecoming
will also star Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Kenneth
Choi, Martin Starr, Logan Marshall-Green, Tony Revelori, Zendaya, Laura
Harrier, and Michael Barbieri.
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in theaters on July ,
2017.
