After passing on the
project, Michael Keaton is back in negotiations to play the villain in the next
Spider-Man reboot opposite Tom Holland as the titular character.
According to several
reports, last month Sony and Marvel approached the Oscar nominated actor to play
the yet unknown villain, but he quickly backed down. It's unclear exactly
what happened but sources say Keaton bowed out over the paycheck. The problem,
it seems, began when Robert Downey Jr. was added to the cast and both studios were
unsure if they would be able to pay both actors.
Now that Downey has
signed on to reprise his Tony Stark role however, sources say that Marvel and
Sony have found a way around the problem and resumed negotiations with the
actor.
Set to be directed by
Jon Watts ("Cop Car") from a script by John Francis Daley ("Vacation")
and Jonathan M. Goldstein ("Horrible Bosses"), Spider-Man: Homecoming
also stars Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier.
Spider-Man:
Homecoming opens in theaters on July 7, 2017.
