20th Century Fox has finally
decided to delay the release of Wes Ball's The Death Cure, the third and final
installment in the Maze Runner, by nearly a year as star Dylan O'Brien continues
to recover from injuries sustained while filming an action scene for the film
this past March.
On April 29, Fox shut
down production to give the actor time to recover from his very serious
injuries, while still hoping to meet the scheduled deadline, but now it seems that
will not be possible.
The Death Cure, which
was originally set to open in theaters on February 17, 2017, will now open on
January 12, 2018.
According to multiple
sources, the actor was involved in an action set piece where he was strapped to
a harness on top of a moving vehicle when unexpectedly he was pulled from it
and struck by another vehicle. WorkSafeBC, reported that O'Brien had suffered a
"concussion, facial fractures and lacerations," but many believe the
actor's injuries sustained are more severe, and we are inclined to believe.
