CinemaCon is over of Sony Pictures, but what they
brought to the event will be talked about in days, months, and years to come.
For this year's event, the studio offered trailers for Passengers, a sci-fi
thriller starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, as well as an early look at
Ang Lee's Billy Flynn's Long Halftime Walk, Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent
Seven, and Paul Feig's Ghostbusters.
The studio also officially confirmed the titled for
the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, and 21 Jump Street and Men In Black movie crossover,
as well as some news regarding the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The
Dark Tower and the Animated Spider-Man Movie.
First things first. Sony Pictures executive Tom
Rothman confirmed that Jon Watts (Cop Car) upcoming Spider-Man standalone reboot
will (as rumored) be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming. Rothman also said that it
carries a double meaning as both a reference to the high school event as well
as the fact that the character has just joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe,
and will make its debut in Captain America: Civil War.
As for the 21 Jump Street and Men In Black crossover, the
Sony exec announced that it will be called MIB 23, meaning that it will
probably a sequel to 22 Jump Street and at the same time a reboot of the Men in
Black franchise. The Muppets director James Bobin was recently rumored to be in
talks to direct the project, which will not count with Will Smith and Tommy Lee
Jones.
Moving on to some of the panel's other highlights,
Sony announced that the feature film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark
Tower has officially began filming, in fact the day of the panel was the first
day of principal photography. Idris Elba is set to play Roland, the Gunslinger,
while Matthew McConaughey will play Flagg, the Man in Black. Breaking Bad's
Aaron Paul is rumored to be either in talks or already on board as Eddie Dean.
The studio also confirmed that the Animated Spider-Man
Movie is set for a December 2018 release, and that the Emoji Movie, which takes
place entirely inside a phone will open in theaters in the Summer of 2017.
Furthermore, Sony also presented title treatments for Equalizer 2, Robotech, Zombieland
2, Bad Boys III, and Blade Runner sequel.
Finally, Sony presented the trailers for Morten
Tyldum's Passengers, and Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven, both starring
Chris Pratt.
PASSENGERS looks intense. Pratt & Lawrence wake up too early into a 120-year space mission, then all hell breaks loose. I'm in #CinemaCon— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) 13 de abril de 2016
Great thing about PASSENGERS is Pratt and Lawrence have real chemistry onscreen. That's a huge part of selling a film.— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) 13 de abril de 2016
Passengers looks great. I'm surprised at the comedy and chemistry between Pratt and JLaw. The action looks intense and scifi looks cool.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) 13 de abril de 2016
Favorite Sony footage... PASSENGERS. Because if any duo can carry an entire movie on their shoulders, it's Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) 13 de abril de 2016
Sony runner-up, footage-wise: The Magnificent Seven, cause Denzel, Pratt, Hawke & a Western trailer set to hip hop. Yes! All of it!— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) 13 de abril de 2016
@devincf matching that cast is going to be unrealistic— Chris Dible (@ChrisDible) 13 de abril de 2016
Trailer for Magnificent Seven looks like a lot of fun. It looks like exactly what you'd expect from an Antoine Fuqua western. #CinemaCon— JoBlo.com (@joblocom) 13 de abril de 2016
