Netflix has entered the final
stages of negotiations to pick up Adam Wingard's live-action adaptation of Takeshi Obata's Death Note manga
series.
Death Note is a horror manga that centers on a student
named Light, who discovers a supernatural notebook that gives him the ability
to kill anyone he chooses simply by writing that person's name on it. When
Light decides to take upon himself to eradicate the World from evil, a
reclusive police officer known only as L appears and a game of cat-and-mouse
begins.
The project was initially being setup over at Warner
Bros. but the studio ultimately pushed the project off their production slate.
STX and Lionsgate were among other studios looking at Death Note, but Netflix
is set to take on the project and put it into production in June.
Starring Paper Towns' actor Nat Wolff as Light and The
Leftovers actress Margaret Qualley as the yet unknown female lead, Death Note
is being produced by Roy Lee, Dan Li, Jason Hoffs, and Masi Oka.
