There is a remake of F.W.
Murnau's iconic German expressionist horror film Nosferatu on the way, and who
could possibly be better to play the emaciated and wide-eyed monster than
Guillermo del Toro's usual collaborator Doug Jones.
Considered by some to
be the first vampire film ever made, the 1922 film follows a young woman's
journey to save her true love and the world from the Vampire Count Orlok. Filmed
in 1921, Nosferatu is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
David Lee Fisher is
directing the remake, which mixes parts of the original film with new footage
and "colorized digital backgrounds recreated from the original film."
Interestingly,
Nosferatu is not the first remake of a German expressionist film the filmmaker
has tackled. In 2005, Fisher directed a remake of Carl Mayer's 1920 The Cabinet
of Dr. Caligari.
Also starring in the
remake are Emrhys Cooper ("Mamma Mia"), Joely Fisher ("Ellen"),
Sarah Carter ("Falling Skies"), and Jake Turner ("Stitchers").
