New Girl star Jake Johnson has
joined The Mummy reboot, Universal Studios first entry in the shared universe
featuring their classic movie monsters.
Johnson is set to play a
member of the military, a role that screenwriter Jon Spaiths (Prometheus) wrote
specifically for him. Further details are being kept a secret.
Set in the present day, The
Mummy reboot also stars Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout star Sofia
Boutella in the lead monster role, and Tom Cruise as a special forces soldier
or former soldier. Peaky Blinders star Annabelle Wallis is currently in talks
to play a scientist.
Johnson recently made his
debut in the franchise world with a turn in Colin Trevorrow's prehistoric
box-office hit, Jurassic World.
Directed by Alex Kurtzman, who
is also shepherding the shared monster universe, The Mummy opens in theaters on
June 9, 2017.
