Between giving fans
what they think they want, and introducing new story elements and
characters that will propel a new set movies forward, rebooting a popular
franchise is no easy task, and J.J. Abrams knows that better than everyone.
All studios,
screenwriters, producers, and directors want to make the best movie they can
possibly do, but when you throw in the long history, rabid fan base, and commercial
success that Star Wars has had over the years, then the pressure increases drastically.
Fortunately, Abrams, and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan overcame such hardships with
one of the best installments in the galaxy, far, far way, ever, which is
probably why The Directors Guild of America invited them to talk about the
process of making the movie, and in a sense rebuilding the franchise.
