As we know the more successful
a movie is the more rapidly a sequel is filmed, packaged, and sold, so when James
Cameron shattered box office records with the $2.7 billion sci-fi juggernaut titled
Avatar we all reasonably assumed that a sequel was just around the corner.
Well, not quite, as it turns out. For years, we have been patiently waiting for
Cameron to deliver Avatar 2, 3 and 4, so how much longer will we have to
wait? Well…a little bit longer it seems.
"I’m in the
process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now…Just refining,"
Cameron said in a phone interview with Entertainment Weekly. "That’s in
parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this
point. We’ve been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings
and creatures are all pretty much [set]"
Regardless of your current
feelings for Avatar, the technological advanced epic was a revolutionary cinematic
experience for the time it was released, so it's understandable that Cameron is
anxious about the quality of the sequels and proving that Avatar wasn't has he
puts it, a "fluke".
Production will take
place in New Zealand, where Cameron intends to shoot all three films
back-to-back with returning cast members Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen
Lang, and Sigourney Weaver.
