Yvonne Craig Has Passed Away


Yvonne Craig has passed away. Best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960s Batman TV show, the 78-year-old actress succumbed to complications brought about from breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver. Craig's last moments were spent surrounded by her immediate family at her home in Pacific Palisades.

Besides her work in the Batman show, Craig's prolific career includes roles in Star Trek, Fantasy Island, Starsky & Hutch, The Six Million Dollar Man, Kojak, Mannix, The Mod Squad, Mars Needs Women, In Like Flint, My Favorite Martian, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., 77 Sunset Strip, and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. She worked opposite such names as Bing Crosby, Sal Mineo, Don Knotts, George Hamilton, Dwayne Hickman, Dennis Hopper as well as Elvis Presley and James Coburn.

Craig also worked outside of the Hollywood, in real estate, where she was involved with both commercial and residential properties. She and her sister were also involved in the prepaid phone card business when it first appeared, producing cards for charitable events as well as promotional cards for Paramount Pictures' Clueless, and Warner Bros' Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

The actress is survived by her husband, Kenneth Aldrich, her sister Meridel Carson, and nephews Christopher and Todd Carson.

Through the years, Craig became involved in multiple charitable, and philanthropic organizations as well as being a public voice in support of workers unions, equal pay for woman, and free mammograms for women who could not afford them. With her husband, Yvonne was also an advocate of education and long time supporters of education on all levels. They were actively involved with the Phillips Brooks House Association at Harvard, the Harvard Graduate School of Education, two different charter schools, and the Liberal Education for Arts Professionals out of St. Mary’s College of California better known as LEAP. She also volunteered time and tutored and mentored disadvantaged students.
