By becoming one of the highest grossing pictures of
all time, Jurassic World has put some of the creative minds behind it on the
map. We recently learned that director Colin Trevorrow had joined the Star Wars
family and was going to direct the last (?) movie in the new trilogy of films,
Episode IX, and now according to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Derek
Connolly is the latest talent to come out of the Jurassic hit and to become attached
to a high profile project.
Per THR, Connolly will be rewriting the script for
Kong: Skull Island, which is set to start production in October with Jordan
Vogt-Roberts attached to direct, and starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and
Corey Hawkins.
Connolly is the fourth writer to become involved with
the King Kong movie. Before him, Max Borenstein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight),
and Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) all helped progress the script for Skull Island,
which will see a team of explorers journey into a mysterious and exotic island
that just so happens to be the home of many ancient and oversized creatures
including King Kong.
Production on the March 10, 2017 release will move
around. Kong: Skull Island will shoot in Hawaii, Vietnam, and Iceland.
