At Comic-Con 20th
Century Fox presented more than just superheroes, they also included a panel
for Paul McGuigan's upcoming twist on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
Moderated by Chris
Hardwick, the panel, which had a few spoilers, saw McGuigan, and stars James
McAvoy, and Daniel Radcliffe take to the stage to present Victor Frankenstein.
- Described as a love
story between Igor (Radcliffe) and Victor (McAvoy) who need each other, McGuigan's
Victor Frankenstein sees Victor realizing Igor's love for science and anatomy,
and the two of them working together to create the monster.
- "It’s actually
about giving the name back to the scientist, Frankenstein," McGuigan
pointed out, since people often call the monster, Frankenstein.
- Igor is treated as
a "subhuman" at the beginning of the movie said Radcliffe before
adding that Victor essentially saves his life by bringing him into working with
him. The conflict comes when Igor tries to tell Victor he has lost his mind.
- Of the dynamic
between the two characters, McAvoy said, "If you’ve ever wanted to see
Daniel Radcliffe utterly abused and embarrassed and manipulated by me, [this is
the film]."
- McAvoy also added
that "like Liam Neeson in the film Taken, Victor realizes that he has
a very particular set of skills."
- Both the film and
Shelley's book have obsession as its main theme, and in the film Victor is
given a reason for his, which doesn't disappear halfway through the film. The
character is mad "all the way to the end."
- The film also
includes other little monsters that weren't in the original tale.
- Of the appeal of
the script Radcliffe said "it's unashamedly entertaining."
