MTV has officially renewed
Scream for a second season. After a few years in limbo, the TV adaptation of
the popular horror movie franchise finally took off the ground and premiered
this June to a hefty 1.563 million viewers, and since garnered 7.9 million
streams across a multitude of platforms.
"It has been a
wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team who are such
connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have
responded to the reinvention of Scream," MTV’s EVP of Series Development
and Head of Scripted Programming Mina Lefevre said in a statement.
While Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co.
and Dimension Films added, "We promise even more scares, surprises,
romance and of course kills in season two."
A premiere date for the second season of Scream has
not been announced yet.
