It seems that Hayao Miyazaki's retirement plans
includes more work. A couple of years ago, at the time of the release of his
last film The Wind Rises, Miyazaki revealed that he would be retiring from
filmmaking, but not from work. The visionary filmmaker as since announced his
desire to create a new manga about a samurai in 16th century feudal Japan, and
now he has announced plans for a new movie.
Speaking in Tokyo, the director announced that he's
currently working on a fully CGI short film that will screen at the Ghibli
Museum in Tokyo. This will be a first for the acclaimed and award winning
director, whose past experiences with the technique had solely been to enhance
his traditionally animated work.
The director is working with his regular staff and a
new group of artists specializing in computer graphics. The film will reportedly
focus on a hairy caterpillar, but other than that, no other story details were given.
It's unclear if the film will ever reach theaters.
