Although it seemed
that everything was going smoothly for 20th Century Fox and their upcoming X-Men
spinoff Gambit, it looks like the project could be on the verge of taking a big
step backwards, as according to The Wrap, Channing Tatum's deal with the studio
is falling apart and he could end up leaving the Rupert Wyatt directed superhero
film.
According to the news
outlet, an individual close to the project revealed that "Tatum's reps are
still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that "something
is up"."
Tatum has been one of
the main forces behind the project, which he is producing, so it's strange that
he would leave it behind, especially since he already went to Comic-Con to help
plug the spinoff and has been doing screentests with actresses, including Léa
Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color, Spectre), to star alongside him.
Tatum's producing
partner Reid Carolin recently revealed that both he and the actor were planning
to jump behind the camera soon, so perhaps that is what is blocking the deal with
the studio and influencing the actor's decision.
Whether he stays or exits,
the project will probably still move forward towards its October 7, 2016
release date.
