With a good portion of his enemies either behind bars,
dead, or off to become Legends, Flash is in dire need of new villains. Enter
the Atom Smasher.
WWE and Haven star Adam "Edge" Copeland has
joined the upcoming second season of The CW's superhero show as Al Rothstein,
aka the Atom Smasher, who despite being a hero in the comics, will be a rock in
Barry's friction resistant shoe.
According to the site, the Atom Smasher will be "one of the most
powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom Smasher has come to Central
City to kill The Flash. His incredible strength and ability to grow to
enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash and the entire S.T.A.R.
Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him."
During his tenure at
DC Comics, Geoff Johns (The Flash executive producer) wrote for the
Justice Society of America, where Rothstein turned on a
darker path following the murder of his mother. The character eventually travelled
back in time to save her, and that seems to be right up the show's current
storyline of multiple universes.
This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, The Flash
producers revealed that while the particle accelerator explosion was their way
of introducing metahumans in season one, Earth-2 will be picking up the slack
in season two.
