Despite gaining momentum last year with the casting of Channing Tatum in
the leading role, and setting the film for an October 7, 2016 release, Fox's X-Men
spinoff, Gambit, seemed to have virtually stalled when time came to look for a
director, until now!
According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox brought in Rise of the Planet of the
Apes director Rupert Wyatt to direct the project, which will see Tatum playing
Remy LeBeau, a New Orleans native with an affinity for gambling, stealing, and
turning the things he touches into explosives, particularly playing cards.
Taylor Kitsch first played the character in the 2009 lackluster Wolverine
spinoff, X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Now that a director has been found, we should expect further casting
announcements to drop at anytime, if production is to start later this year.
