It seems that Marvel
Studios and Sony Pictures have narrowed their list of candidates to play
Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot of the property to just two names.
According to Devin Faraci
from Badass Digest, both companies have zeroed in on 18-year-old actors, Asa
Butterfield (Ender's Game), and Tom Holland (The Impossible) to play the newest
Peter Parker/Spider-Man incarnation.
Both actors names were
in the shortlist reported awhile back, which also contained Nat Wolff (The
Fault in Our Stars), Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), and Liam James (The Way
Way Back).
Butterfield is said
to be the frontrunner, but now that it reportedly came down to just two actors,
it's anyone's guess who will the Sony ultimately pick since they have final
say.
Spider-Man will make
his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut on Captain America: Civil War, which
premieres on May 6, 2016, before jumping to his standalone film in July 28,
2017.
