Twelve-time Academy Award winning nominee Roger
Deakins has joined director Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Blade Runner sequel.
According to Alcon Entertainment, the acclaimed cinematographer will be reuniting
with his Prisoners and Sicario director for the upcoming sci-fi sequel, which
was scripted by Hampton Fancher, and Michael Green based on an original idea by
Fancher and Ridley Scott.
The yet untitled sequel takes place several decades
after the events of the first film, and will see Harrison Ford reprising his
Rick Deckard role from the 1982 film. Ryan Gosling was recently rumored to be
in talks to star opposite Harrison, but so far no confirmation, and it may take
sometime before we have one since the film is only scheduled to begin
production in the summer of 2016.
Deakins has an enviable body of work, which includes
The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, Kundun, No Country for Old Men, Skyfall,
Jarhead, and The Big Lebowski.
