Besides
offering a couple of new details on J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens,
the June issue of Vanity Fair also revealed that there have been talks at
Lucasfilm about a new Indiana Jones film.
The
studio president, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that there is an interest in the
franchise, but for now she isn't sure when that will happen.
In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for
better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders.
A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise.
Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie “will one day be made inside
this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started
working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.
When the new Star Wars film was announced, and
Harrison Ford began evading questions about his involvement, many suspected that
the actor was trying to get a deal that would have him return as both Indy and
Han. Now however, with a non-existing script, the actor reaching his mid-70's,
and with the studio's attention focused on Star Wars, it is difficult to
imagine Lucasfilm betting on the actor to whip up his whip in a new installment
of the much beloved franchise, which will happen…?
On the other hand, previous reports claimed that there
was a script already in development and that Spielberg was eyeing Chris Pratt
to play the lead.
