Paramount Pictures
has decided to push back the release date for the upcoming reboot of Friday The
13th franchise yet again. The film was originally scheduled to open on March
13th, 2015, it was then moved to November 13th, 2015, and now sits on the somewhat
troublesome date of May 13th, 2016, which is a week after Captain America:
Civil War, and two weeks prior to X-Men: Apocalypse.
I'm not seeing how
changing the reboot to this new release date is beneficial to the overall success
of the franchise. Is it counter programming? Yes, but the fact is that most
people will probably end up seeing Captain America: Civil War and X-Men:
Apocalypse more than once, so I have my doubts they will spend money to see yet
another Jason Voorhees origin story.
Besides playing around
with the release date that matches with the title of the film, little to no
progress has been made in actually putting the film in theaters. No director,
no cast.
In other news, the
empty space left by Jason on November 13, 2015 will now be filed by yet another
entry in the Ring franchise titled Rings. Paramount also pushed back the
release of Paranormal Activity 6, which will now open on October 23th, 2015.
