Pirates of the
Caribbean, Shrek, and Aladdin screenwriter Terry Rossio has been tapped by Team
Downey to pen the script for Yucatan a treasure hunt movie based on
an original idea by late actor Steve McQueen.
McQueen was actively
developing Yucatan in the late 60's for him to star in, and after his death a
1700-page treatment for the film was discovered. The original story follows a renegade
salvage expert on a mission to find Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Deadline reports that
Downey and Rossio are using the story as a jumping point, and adapting it to
make it their own. The site also reports that Yucatan will be "mind-bending",
while Collider quotes Susan Downey saying it is a "great, wild, kind of
action, sort of Inception-type movie."
