Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past will be the third time the director as helmed a mutant filled flick and if everything goes according to plan it won’t be the last. A few months ago the director announced that after Days of Future Past he will be returning to the franchise with X-Men: Apocalypse, which will hit theaters on May 27th, 2016.
At this point not much is known
about the sequel, except that it will feature the Mutant Apocalypse (well it’s
in the title) and will focus more on the cast of First Class. What is also
known is that Singer brought along X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty
plus Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg to help write the script.
In a recent interview to EW,
Singer revealed that at this time he is attached to write alongside the other
already mentioned writers and produce, but not direct, which is what he is wishing.
“I’m co-writing the story and I’m
producing it. I’m negotiating to direct. We’re in the process. We’re trying to
figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.”
In early December it was leaked
that Days of Future Past would eventually have a post credit scene of some
kind, teasing Apocalypse, but it seems that the jury is still out on that
matter.
“I’m still deciding [whether Days
of Future Past will feature an Apocalypse tease]. Something that happens in this movie causes
what’s going to happen in that movie.”
Regarding the actual plot of
X-Men: Apocalypse, Singer reveals that it will focus on the origins of mutants.
“It will also address historical
mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s
something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history
and miracles and powers.”
Despite the timeline problems
that the franchise has when compared with its source material, I do enjoy it,
so I’m excited to see both Days of Future Past and the possible tease for
Apocalypse.
