Actress Aubrey Plaza and actors Oliver Platt and Jeff Goldblum are the latest additions to David Koepp’s action comedy Mortdecai, starring Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, and Olivia Munn.
Depp plays Mortdecai as “he
races to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank
account filled with Nazi gold. Of course, he’ll have to contend with angry
Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international
terrorist first.”

STARRING JOHNNY DEPP

(January 9, 2014) – Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and OddLot Entertainment announced
today that Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation, THE TO DO LIST, SAFETY NOT
GUARANTEED), Golden Globe® and Emmy® nominee Oliver Platt (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS,
LOVE & OTHER DRUGS, 2012) and Academy Award® and Emmy® nominee Jeff
Goldblum (INDEPENDENCE DAY, JURASSIC PARK) have joined the cast of the action
comedy MORTDECAI. The film, based on the popular three-novel anthology by Kyril
Bonfiglioli, wrapped production in London and is currently in production in Los
Angeles.
Plaza, Platt and Goldblum join an
all-star cast led by Johnny Depp and featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor,
Olivia Munn and Paul Bettany. Additional
cast previously announced include Guy Burnet, Michael Byrne, Michael Culkin,
Jonny Pasvolsky, Ulrich Thomsen, and Paul Whitehouse. David Koepp is directing
the film from a screenplay by Eric Aronson.
Andrew Lazar, Johnny Depp, Christi Dembrowski and OddLot’s Gigi Pritzker
are producing the project.
Aubrey Plaza currently stars on
NBC’s critically acclaimed series Parks and Recreation, and recently starred in
the feature film THE TO DO LIST and lent her voice to the enormously successful
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY. Plaza also starred
in such films as SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED, FUNNY PEOPLE and SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE
WORLD, and will next star in LIFE AFTER BETH.
Oliver Platt, star of film,
television and stage, most recently appeared in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, LOVE &
OTHER DRUGS, 2012 and FROST/NIXON. On television, Platt starred in Showtime’s
Huff, receiving a Golden Globe® and back-to-back Primetime Emmy® nominations
for his role.
Jeff Goldblum’s long and
acclaimed career spans film, television and theater. His credits include some
of the highest-grossing films of all time including JURASSIC PARK and
INDEPENDENCE DAY as well as such classics as THE BIG CHILL and THE FLY. Recently,
Goldblum has appeared in MAN OF THE YEAR and THE SWITCH, and will next be seen
in director Wes Anderson’s THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. On television, Goldblum
starred in Law & Order: Criminal Intent among many other credits.
Juggling some angry Russians, the
British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair
art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe
armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen
painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi
gold.
MORTDECAI marks the first project
under Lionsgate and OddLot’s multiyear, multipicture co-financing and
distribution deal which the companies announced last year.
